What Does Mental Health Look Like?

Untitled, 11th Grade Student

Mental Health is all about people and their well-being. I felt the way to show what mental health looks like, is to show people interacting, showing the connections we make.

“Why Is the Phone So Important?,” 12th Grade Student

Teenagers nowadays can not stay off of the phone, even during class time. Phones play a big role in our whole routine during the day. A lot of teenagers think that being on the phone is more important than your teacher giving you instruction time. Teenagers depend on their phone for comfort as well. Phones and social media are a huge problem in the younger generation.

“When Will They Notice?,” 12th Grade Student

Based on experience with other students, mental health is really hard to tell from the outside. Mental health has many different looks. Someone with mental health issues could be the happiest person you know but when alone, could be a totally different person. Everyone could be struggling with mental issues, but they might put on this persona for others so it isn’t obvious or so no one will ask questions. A person may be showing signs of unhappiness, and you may just think that they are having one of those days or that they’re like that all the time, so it’s normal. Example: in this photo, everyone is laughing and having a good conversation, but there’s one person that doesn’t seem to be laughing despite no one noticing. This person could be struggling, but it seems we just block it out.

“High Speed,” 12th Grade Student

Mental health looks like somebody’s well-being. In my opinion, mental health is like a train on tracks; it’s never ending - uphill, then downhill. It’s a continuous cycle, and you never know what’s to come until it is there.
